Our method of teaching math is an
initiative towards more proficient grade level math principles and
concepts. The FASCA method often identified as “visual math” closely
follows Singapore Math method. Singapore math is based on the national
math system of Singapore and promotes a deeper understanding of numbers
and math concepts. According to national media, students in Singapore
have repeatedly ranked at or near the top on international math exams
since the mid-1990s. FASCA’s visual math, modeled after Singapore math,
features a concrete to pictorial to representational approach. “Students
begin by learning through concrete and pictorial means before moving
into abstract thought and development, which encourages active thinking
process, communication of mathematical ideas and problem solving.”
Recommended for those who want a
solid, basic math program with a proven track record and an emphasis on
concept development, mental techniques, and problem solving, we use a
set of textbooks and workbooks that are designed specifically for U.S.
students. Names, terms in examples, measurement, spellings, currency and
other such elements have been changed to reflect American stylistic
preferences.
